Who We Are

History Of Adenta Baptist Church

Origin

ADENTA BAPTIST CHURCH (ABC)  was started in November 1994 by Pastor Solomon Opoku with the help of his wife Mrs. Nancy Opoku and four other couples, namely:

  •  Mr. Ambrose Asamoah and Mrs. Regina Asamoah
  •  Mr. Kwabena Adusei-Poku and Mrs. Christiana Adusei-Poku
  •  Mr. Bampoe and Mrs. Lydia Bampoe
  •  Mr. Dominic Julius Cudjoe and Mrs. Beatrice Adinshia Cudjoe
Purpose

The purpose was to establish Adenta Baptist Church as a missionary oriented Church and plant other churches within Adenta and its environs. At that time, Adenta was a new settlement community in Greater Accra Region. The vision was based on Romans 1:16: “We are not ashamed of the Gospel because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes….”

Our History

RECOGNITION BY GHANA BAPTIST CONVENTION

Adenta Baptist Church had no “mother” Church at birth. Rev. Solomon Opoku had resigned as the Pastor of Redeemed Baptist Church and for fear that Adenta Baptist Church (ABC) would be an Independent Baptist Church and not belong to the Ghana Baptist Convention, Adenta Baptist Church (ABC) had serious recognition challenges initially. It was not until 12th January 1996 when Adenta Baptist Church (ABC) was recognized as a member of Ghana Baptist Convention, which is the umbrella denomination which most Baptist Churches belong. The delay in recognizing the Church by Ghana Baptist Convention initially gave the Church a bad image since most of Baptist Church members who were settling in Adenta in the 1990s could not fellowship with us and this affected our human and financial resources.

MEETING PLACES

The Church (ABC) began meeting at a house located at 12 Candle Street, Adenta Housing Down, opposite the Light Academy School, from November 1994 till 5th January, 2003, when the Church re-located to the present place – 23A Ntreh Street, Adenta Housing Down. This present location used to be a lake for cattle rearing before the State Housing Project. We worship in a simple but nice structure currently, but in 2014 we began constructing our new chapel.

PAST AND PRESENT PASTORS

The changing of Pastors, about six in all, within the first fourteen years of the Church’s existence, really affected the growth of the Church. Some members had to leave the Church because of this instability. It also affected our human and financial resources.

OUR MISSION

Our mission statement can be summed up in one word: REACH.

Reaching Up | Loving God:
Vertical reach to touch God. We reach up through worship.

Reach In | Serving Each Other:
Horizontal reach to bless others. We serve God by serving each other.

Reach Out | Changing The World:
Outward reach to can change the world. We have to be bold and courageous. Jesus commanded us to go into the entire world and present the good news.

OUR VISION

A place where a person with no church background can come and feel comfortable and enjoy the service because the atmosphere will be friendly. The sermons are always practical, biblical and relevant. The music is contemporary and upbeat with a praise team and full band.

A church that is fun for the entire family, a church where kids want to go because they have a great time experiencing God’s love. A church that builds families.

These dreams are being fulfilled because they are inspired by God!

A a church that helps every member find their ministry and lets them use their gifts and abilities to meet other’s needs. We believe the church is at her best when the doors are open to all of who have an interest in learning about the Christian faith. Wherever you are on your journey, regardless of where you fall on the deep questions of faith, our community is open to you.
